About Us​

Just wanted to give a brief overview of me the owner of Gatz Construction. My name is Scott Moody, and I was raised in the southwestern Michigan area since 1980. Before that my Father was in the United States Army so home to me was our family. Still is today! My Mother and Father are both blue collar hard working individuals, usually holding down more than 1 job at a time. My Father did roofs, decks and other odd handyman type of work as side work to help provide for our family. I was part of his workforce from the age of 10 or 11 until college.

One hot Saturday morning during summer break, I was to help my father tear off a roof, clean up the ground and help install the new roof. Of course, being a young kid I had other priorities other than do what I was suppose to do, and my Father believed in paying on how you worked! Well lets just say I did not make a lot of money that day, and when I received my money for a long day of work, I was extremely disappointed, mad, and stated I would never work with him again. My Father quickly reminded me that he paid based on performance not hours worked. I always made good on that deal after that lesson learned! Performance is key.

I eventually graduated high school, attended and graduated Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI) on an Army ROTC Scholarship. So after graduating in 4 years with a B.S. in Civil Engineering I served a little over 4 years in active duty with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville, North Carolina. While in the Army I did some very cool things, like jump out of airplanes 46 times, graduated from one of the toughest military courses – U.S. Army Ranger School, and had a blast leading and training with America’s best soldiers. I also during that time married my college sweetheart, Sherri.

We moved to Phoenix, Arizona after my time in the service was over. My career was in commercial construction management, estimating and sales dealing with multi-million dollar contracts. We eventually wanted to start a family and move back to home (southwestern Michigan). We now live in Middlebury, Indiana, and have 3 very beautiful children, Cooper, Verona and Ryen. They challenge us everyday, and provide us with the opportunity to re-live our youth through their eyes! God has blessed my family and has given us tons of great opportunities and we are thankful!
